Haiti, relief efforts

On Tuesday afternoon, Haiti was struck by a devastating earthquake, affecting many people.  An outpouring support by America has been wonderful and I am sure well appreciated from those directly involved.  During the present recession we find ourselves in, Americans have been very supportive financially and emotionally despite what we are dealing with at home.

This earthquake has caused an unimaginable amount of damage and devastation, Haiti lacks the resources that it needs to help find victims and treat them.  By sending our resources we open up the possibility of saving many lives.

Many American’s have been donating to the American Red Cross with hopes to relieve the devastation that Haiti is facing.  The Red Cross, as of today reported 3 million dollars worth of donations to help support relief efforts.

The Red Cross has made it easy and possible for everyone to be a part of the relief efforts for Haiti by simply asking people to donate via text to 90999.  By texting “Haiti” to 90999 a $10 dollar donation will be made and appear on your cell phone bill.  100% of the donation will be sent to the “Haiti relief fund.” You can also visit the Red Cross site to donate.  Neither the Red Cross, nor your participating cell phone company will receive any part of your donation

Wyclef Jean’s charity Yele Haiti, is also making it possible to donate $5 by texting ‘Yele’ to 501501 or visit their site

The emotional support via Facebook, Twitter and many supportive and informative blogs, together we can help Haiti come back after this devastating experience.
