URI Energy Fellows Visit GLSL

7.15.09 - Energy Fellows (2)The University of Rhode Island Energy Fellow students stopped by to take a tour of the Green Life Smart Life project last week. These students (who work as fellows full time in the summer, part time during the academic year), are working on some wonderful project around the state, including conducting energy audits of local municipality buildings and offering solutions on how to retrofit more energy efficient energy systems into their buildings. If the municipalities are on-board, the students will help them write and submit for grants to fund the retrofits. This is just one of the many projects that these ambitious students are working on at the moment. The program even runs their own Energy Center right on the URI campus.

If you have attending any of the local energy expos, including the Aperion Institute Event that GLSL attended last month, you’ve probably met one of these fellows. We at GLSL strongly believe that they are the future for a cleaner, more energy efficient planet, so we were excited to be able to share with them what we are doing in the home and hopefully we gave them some first-hand experience on what it takes to build a green home in Rhode Island.

We commend these students for taking the extra step to help others, and help us live in a better environment.

At GLSL, our goal has always been to provide tools, education and knowledge with our community and across the country. If your school or organization would like to take a tour of the Green Life Smart Life project, meet with the people who are making this house possible, please contact Lauren Simmen at lsimmen@castercomm.com or 401.792.7080 to set up a time to come over. We can accommodate for all ages and groups, even the littlest ones can learn something from this house, just ask Abby – she even has her very own blog based on everything she has learned!
