Minus the four years I spent being educated in the hallowed halls of Boston University, I have been a lifetime resident of Portsmouth, Rhode Island. The self-proclaimed Birthplace of American Democrcy is a fine place to raise a family, buy fresh produce, and as of a few days ago, witness wind power at it’s ultimate glory.
This single wind turbine is expected to generate nearly 60% of our town’s power while serving as a collossal example of what many skylines could look like years from now. The 366 foot tall structure sits on this highest point in our town, right next to the high school and in full view of residents travelling down Route 24 on their way to Providence, Fall River or Boston. The best and perhaps most shocking part, the nearly three million dollar project came in under budget and the green energy produced is expected to yield the town a nearly $200,000 profit in the first year alone.
An excellent CNN.com video of the wind turbine and the details surrounding it’s installation by a Portsmouth-based business can be viewed by clicking the link below.
